Take a daily activity, such as your yarn crafts, and be curious and alert about yourself. Notice every sensory detail. Pay attention to the texture and softness of the yarn, the sensation of it on your fingers. Immerse yourself in the colours and the repetitive motion of creating the stitches. Notice if you're thinking ahead to what you're doing next and if so, gently bring your attention back to the present.
Over time, this simple practice will change how you relate to distractions, and increase your ability to focus and concentrate. When you fully engage on a crochet or knitting project you become more conscious of your inner thoughts and you tap into your creativity, without the need for any artistic expertise.
You can use the time you spend crocheting or knitting to help you enhance your meditation practice. Choose a pattern that appeals to you and let your mind be absorbed by the design and the colours you see. This soothes the busy, chattering mind and allows the creative mind to be stress free - the joy of creating!
